HYDROCARBON ELECTRONICS CLEANING IN CO-SOLVENT SYSTEMS

Co-Solvent vapor degreasing is the long term cleaning process of the future.

Normal vapor degreasing uses a single solvent to clean and rinse parts. Because the solvent must be boiled in a single solvent vapor degreasing system only solvent with no flash points can be used.

Solvents with no flash points are found only in chemistries based in Chlorine, Bromine or Fluorine. While all of these can be used in vapor degreasers, they each face serious problems, which can be avoided in a co-solvent system.

Chlorinated solvents all have either environmental issues such as ozone depletion or low-level air pollution in the form of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or heath issues being suspected carcinogens or reproductive hazards. Some industries such as electronics manufacturing avoid using chlorinated and brominated solvents during the manufacturing process.

Brominated solvents are also ozone depleters, VOCs, suspected carcinogens and reproductive hazards.

Fluorinated solvents are not ozone depleters and are not regulated as VOCs. Fluorinated solvents also have less impact on human health. The problem with fluorinated solvents is that the solvency strength is very weak. To be used effectively in a single solvent system, they must be azeotroped with trans 1,2-dichloroethylene which is a chlorinated solvent.

Co-Solvent vapor degreasing solvent uses a high boiling point solvent for degreasing and cleaning. Then it uses a fluorinated solvent for rinsing. Thus co-solvent avoids using Chlorinated and Brominated solvents that can be issues with health or the environment. It makes up for the poor solvency of Fluorinated solvents by using non-halogenated solvents for removal of residues.

Thus co-solvent vapor degreasing is a long term alternative to single solvent systems such as trichloroethylene (TCE) and normal propyl bromide (nPB) that are being regulated out manufacturing in many parts of the world.

Evolve CH-10 is an aerospace approved high flash point odorless general-purpose hydrocarbon-based cold and manual wipe cleaning solvent.

Evolve CH-10 removes oils, greases, shop soils and related general contamination from all types of metal. It also removes oils and greases from most plastics and polymers without compatibility issues.

FAQ: What is the difference between Evolve CH-10 and Evolve CH-15?

Answer: CH-10 and CH-15 are similar products; however, CH-10 has a 58°C flash point while CH-15 has a 42°C flash point. With the higher flash point, CH-10 is classified as nonflammable for storage and handling. With the lower flash point, CH-15 evaporates (dries) more quickly than CH-10. Nevertheless, the 42°C flash point is still above 40°C which means it is not rated as highly flammable and thus an excellent replacement for low flash point solvents such as acetone, alcohol or MPK.

ELECTRONICS / AVIONS SEMI-AQUEOUS CLEANER FOR DIFFICULT-TO-REMOVE FLUX RESIDUES

Samsol EC-121 semi-aqueous defluxer is a blend of surfactants, aliphatic esters, and propylene glycol ethers. The semi-aqueous cleaning technique involves a solvent cleaning step, followed by hot water rinse and drying cycles.

Samsol EC-121 removes a wide variety of eutectic and lead free flux residues. It is excellent for cleaning after high temperature reflow and for removing any charred-on solder paste flux residues. Samsol EC-121 is ideal for medical, military and avionic defluxing and other applications where there is a requirement for high reliability microelectronic circuit boards and components.

ENVIRONMENTALLY & OPERATOR FRIENDLY VAPOUR DEGREASING SOLVENT

Samsol RA Plus is an environmentally & operator friendly vapour degreasing solvent. This product is based on an azeotropic blend of fluorinated solvents and alcohols. Samsol RA Plus is primarily used as a rinsing agent for co-solvent cleaning applications. In this process parts are first immersed in a higher boiling solution before being rinsed in the clean vapour of Samsol RA Plus. CITRUS-BASED SOLVENT FOR ELECTRONICS DEFLXUING, PRECISON CLEANING AND ADHESIVE REMOVAL

Samsol Sitrex solvent is suitable for removing a wide variety of soils in immersion or hand-wipe cleaning applications from all types of metal surfaces as well as electronics defluxing. The product will evaporate completely thus, no water rinse is required. BANNER POWERFUL COLD CLEANERS (SOLVENT) ; SAMUEL SOLUTION

Samsol 5, Samsol 40, Samsol 70 and Samsol 91 are a series of low cost proprietary blends of isoparaffinic hydrocarbons for manual cold cleaning. In the world of cleaning, solvents with low flash points evaporate more quickly than solvents with higher flash points.

Flash points:

Samsol 5 = 5°C flash point (fast evaporation)

TOPKLEAN EL-20A has been specially developed for the cleaning of solder paste residues and all types of solder fluxes as well as misprinted solder pastes on PCBs. The use of TOPKLEAN EL-20A as a co-solvent together with SAMSOL RA highly increases its cleaning and drying performances.
